A 1,000 MW Solar Power Plant to be Set Up in Barauni

A 1,000 megawatt (MW) solar power plant will be developed in Barauni, Bihar. Electricity generated from this plant will be supplied not only within the state but also to other states. The project is aimed at strengthening Bihar’s energy infrastructure and increasing the share of renewable energy.
According to officials, the solar power plant will be set up on approximately 2,000 acres of land. The Bihar government will lease the land to a private company for solar power generation. The electricity produced will be fed into the national grid, helping meet rising power demand.
Under the project, Bihar will receive 250 MW of electricity, while the remaining power will be supplied to other states through the central power distribution system. This initiative is part of India’s broader renewable energy mission and will help reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.
16 Companies Show Interest
As many as 16 companies have submitted bids for the project. The tender process is currently underway, and the final company will be selected through a transparent bidding system.
India’s First ‘Waste-to-Solar’ Linked Project
This project is also being described as the first of its kind, as it integrates large-scale solar energy generation with modern energy storage and transmission systems. Once completed, it will significantly improve electricity availability in Bihar, especially during peak demand hours.
Boost to Clean Energy and Employment
The Barauni solar project is expected to create local employment opportunities and contribute to Bihar’s goal of expanding clean and sustainable energy. It aligns with the central government’s vision of promoting solar power and reducing carbon emissions.
Officials said the project will play a crucial role in ensuring reliable power supply and transforming Bihar into a renewable energy hub.
