Pashupatinath–Baijnath and Narayani–Ganga High-Speed Corridors to Be Developed

The Bihar government has forwarded proposals to the Central Government for the construction of two major high-speed greenfield corridors — the Pashupatinath–Baijnath Corridor and the Narayani–Ganga Corridor. The announcement was made by Road Construction Minister Dr. Dilip Jaiswal while presenting the department’s budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Assembly.
The minister informed the House that the Road Construction Department has sought approval for a total outlay of ₹82.60 billion for the upcoming financial year. He emphasized that these new road projects aim to significantly improve interstate and regional connectivity.
Pashupatinath–Baijnath Corridor
The proposed Pashupatinath–Baijnath High-Speed Corridor will connect the famous Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal with Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand. The corridor is expected to begin near Bhimnagar, close to the Nepal border, and stretch approximately 250 kilometers to Jharkhand. In Bihar, it will pass through districts including Supaul, Araria, Katihar, and Purnea, enhancing connectivity in north and northeast Bihar.
Narayani–Ganga Corridor
The Narayani–Ganga High-Speed Corridor will have an estimated length of 225 kilometers. It is planned to start from NH-727A and extend to Bhojpur district. Once operational, it will provide improved and faster connectivity to districts such as Bhojpur, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, and West Champaran.
Road Expansion and Expressway Plans
The minister also highlighted plans to widen nearly 5,000 kilometers of single-lane roads into two lanes or more under the Chief Minister’s Road Expansion Scheme. The goal is to ensure that residents can access a two-lane road within a maximum distance of 20 kilometers.
Additionally, approval has been granted for the construction of 19 Railway Over Bridges, with 12 already completed and work ongoing on others. Several expressway projects are also in different stages of approval and land acquisition, including the Buxar–Bhagalpur, Raxaul–Haldia, Gorakhpur–Siliguri, and Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata corridors.
These infrastructure initiatives are expected to strengthen Bihar’s transport network and accelerate economic growth across the state.
