CBI Takes Over NEET Student Death Probe in Bihar

The investigation into the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in Bihar has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation following widespread public outrage and demands for an impartial inquiry. The decision was taken by the Bihar government amid growing concerns over the initial police investigation and allegations raised by the victim’s family.
The student, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Patna. Family members alleged foul play and claimed that crucial evidence was ignored during the early stages of the probe. As news of the incident spread, student groups, civil society members, and political leaders staged protests, calling for justice and accountability.
Responding to the pressure, the state government of Bihar recommended a CBI inquiry to ensure transparency and restore public confidence. Officials said all case-related documents, forensic reports, and witness statements would be handed over to the central agency to facilitate a comprehensive investigation.
The CBI is expected to re-examine the crime scene, question key witnesses, and analyze digital and forensic evidence afresh. Sources indicated that the agency may also look into whether there was any harassment, institutional pressure, or external influence linked to the student’s academic preparation or personal life.
Opposition parties have welcomed the move but stressed that the investigation must be time-bound and result-oriented. Student organizations, meanwhile, have urged authorities to strengthen safety mechanisms and mental health support for competitive exam aspirants, citing increasing stress and pressure among youths.
The victim’s family expressed cautious hope, stating that a CBI probe would bring out the truth and ensure those responsible are punished. As the case now enters a crucial phase, the focus remains on delivering justice and preventing similar incidents in the future.
